EXODUS RISING

EXODUS RISING

In the intricate tapestry of progressive metal, a transcendent force has emerged, meticulously crafted over years of unwavering dedication and guided by a divine calling. This force is none other than Exodus Rising, a band that seamlessly weaves musical prowess and spiritual narrative into a breathtaking journey spanning from Genesis to Revelation.

The genesis of Exodus Rising was sparked by a divine prompting that compelled NY Charlie and his brother, KC Bonet, to embark on a creative odyssey in the heart of New York City. Alongside them stood Chris Zapa, a virtuoso keyboardist and symphonic composer, forming the core trio that would breathe life into the envisioned concept album.

Their pursuit of musical excellence led them to a remarkable drummer, whose association with the acclaimed artist Prince Royce spoke volumes of his skill. Together, they forged ahead, crafting ten tracks that laid the foundation for a monumental project. However, as fate would have it, unforeseen challenges arose, and the initial drummer could no longer complete the journey.

Undeterred, Exodus Rising pressed on, and in their quest for a vocalist, they found themselves in a series of encounters with impressive singers. Yet, it was through earnest prayer that they discovered J Slate, a vocalist with a three-octave range, unwavering dedication, and a shared devotion to the divine. With J Slate's inauguration into the fold, the ensemble found its voice, a celestial instrument capable of conveying the intricate emotions embedded in their narrative.

As the band sought a drummer to match the exceptional skill of their initial collaborator, reminiscent of the caliber of Mike Portnoy, they continued their search for the missing piece of the puzzle. The anticipation built as Exodus Rising prepared to unveil a concept album that transcends the boundaries of musical genres, weaving together elements of progressive metal with a profound narrative drawn from the sacred pages of the Bible.

In a pivotal year before the onset of the pandemic, Exodus Rising set the stage for an epic odyssey, blending the ethereal and the visceral, the divine and the mortal. With a lineup of musicians driven by a shared vision, they stand poised to redefine the boundaries of progressive metal, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in the spiritual journey that is Exodus Rising.

KEYBOARDS (2023 - PRESENT)

Born January 15, 1985, as Christopher John Zapata in the lively borough of Queens, New York. His affinity for rock music manifested early, with the echoing tunes of Van Halen providing a soundtrack to his infant days. An early fascination with piano sparked at the age of 6, inspired by his sister's rendition of simple songs on the piano. Witnessing pianists on local TV, Chris mimicked their melodies on a wall piano, showcasing an exceptional ability at a remarkably young age, though it went largely unnoticed.

In his early teens, Chris rekindled his love for rock and metal music, venturing into bass playing. Initially aspiring to form a band with keyboards, the absence of a keyboardist led him to self-learn the instrument rapidly. Teaching himself by ear, he abandoned the bass entirely in favor of keyboards. Immersing himself in the works of bands like Children of Bodom and Symphony X, Chris delved into music theory, sparking an interest in classical music. His formal education in classical piano and music theory began at Inter American University in San German, Puerto Rico, marking the commencement of his serious musical training.

Delving into orchestrations and arrangements, Chris discovered a passion for epic symphonic compositions, drawing inspiration from classical and modern-day composers. The allure of symphonic metal beckoned, and Chris aspired to become a symphonic metal composer. Over the years, he composed and released singles like "The Overture of a New Horizon," "Full Potential," and "Into the Multiverse." Offered a place in NYCharley's former band "On the Fly," Chris had to decline at the time but eventually joined "Exodus Rising" years later. His diverse musical palette spans film scores, video game soundtracks, world music, and classical and baroque works by Johann Sebastian Bach. Despite his proficiency, Chris sees himself more as a composer than an instrumentalist.

Chris Zappa's journey intertwines a love for various musical genres, dedication to compositional artistry, and a commitment to continuous learning. Whether orchestrating symphonies or exploring the depths of the ocean, Chris's melodic odyssey weaves a harmonious tapestry that extends beyond the notes and into the diverse facets of his life.

Currently residing in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, Chris finds joy in exploration and travel. His academic pursuits in Marine Recreation and Tourism align with his passion for snorkeling, providing a multifaceted glimpse into his life beyond the realm of music.

KC Bonet

LEAD GUITARIST (2023 - PRESENT)

Born on August 17, 1971, in the vibrant city of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, our guitar virtuoso's love affair with music began at the tender age of 8. Enchanted by the melodies emanating from a transistor radio, an early fascination with pop and rock laid the foundation. The turning point arrived with the anthemic sounds of Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger," a song so beloved that the radio became a constant companion. The migration to NYC unveiled a treasure trove of heavy metal and hard rock in the record collection of a sibling, sparking a profound love for the genre.

At 16, our guitarist's destiny took a new form with the introduction of an electric guitar into the household. Initiated into the world of power chords by a bass-playing brother, the journey began with an ear for Dio's "Holy Diver." As Yngwie Malmsteen's "Rising Force" echoed through the air, the desire to master the fusion of classical and metal took root. Classical guitar lessons followed, supplemented by self-learning through magazines, books, and videos, propelling our guitarist into a realm where music knew no bounds.

High school marked the birth of the first band, "Assyrians." Weekends were dedicated to rehearsals that, albeit annoying the neighbors, laid the groundwork for original compositions and school performances. The subsequent venture, "Modern Image," even graced the stage of the iconic Apollo Theater on Amateur Latin night, marking a significant milestone.

A pivotal moment arrived with an invitation to audition for Ruffchild, his brother's band, following a guitarist's departure. Successfully passing the audition, they produced an EP that resonated on Puerto Rican radio. The evolution continued with the formation of Desafio, introducing a unique flamenco metal sound. After years of playing, recording demos, and garnering acclaim, Desafio's journey reached its conclusion.

Transitioning from band life, our guitarist delved into the intricacies of sound recording and music production. A home studio birthed opportunities to record rock and rap clients, culminating in a dual role as musician and producer.

Life's responsibilities took center stage as he moved to Florida, pursued further studies in recording science, and started a family. Despite a hiatus from music, the passion for guitar persisted, occasionally practiced amidst familial duties.

Post-divorce, the strings resonated anew. A beckoning call from his brother marked the inception of a new project, Exodus Rising. Embracing the divine message, they gathered the right musicians, creating a musical testament all in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The guitarist's journey, intertwined with family, musical evolution, and spiritual calling, continues to unfold.

A pivotal moment emerged with the formation of Ruffchild, leading to the release of an EP that resonated powerfully on the island of Puerto Rico.

Ruffchild underwent a metamorphosis, evolving into Desafio—an innovative blend of Spanish Flamenco and Heavy Metal. Yet, their ahead-of-its-time brilliance left record companies perplexed.

Post-Desafio, NY Charlie transitioned seamlessly into the realm of sound engineering. PowerhouseNY recording studio emerged under his guidance, establishing him as both an adept engineer and a visionary producer. His creative journey extended beyond music, crafting a program that united counseling, creative writing, and music for over 400 children.

Venturing back into the spotlight, NY Charlie orchestrated On The Fly, a collaborative effort resulting in an album that showcased his prowess as a producer. The journey continued with Infinite Plan until a divine calling redirected his path during worship, prompting a halt in the project.

In God’s perfect timing, Exodus Rising emerged when NY Charlie reunited with his brother, KC Bonet. As the producer and creative force behind the band, NY Charlie found profound purpose in utilizing his talents for a divine ministry.

Within Exodus Rising, NY Charlie’s role extends beyond production—he contributes melodies and lyrics, considering this musical endeavor as a profound manifestation of God’s work through his talents.
